What is Google Voice?
Google Voice was initially released back in 2009 as Google\’s answer to VoIP (Voice over
Internet Protocol). It was designed to help people save money on their phone bills and use their
smartphones instead of paying monthly fees to carriers. It provides users with a number as both
a mobile phone number and a voicemail service. If you own a standard cellphone and have a
Gmail account then you should already be familiar with Google Voice. However, if you don\’t,

How do I set up my Google Voice number?
The first thing you\’ll want to do is open your Google Voice application. You\’ll follow the prompts

Most importantly, you won\’t have to pay extra for your phone bill. Most major carriers charge
upwards of $20/month for using your mobile device as a traditional landline. In addition to
saving money, you can also cut down on unnecessary paperwork. Rather than filling out forms
each month, simply take payments via credit card and send out invoices through email.
Where does my Google Voice number come from?
Your Google Voice number comes from your current carrier\’s network. So if you were to call the
number of someone who uses Verizon, they will only reach the person\’s regular phone rather
than their Google Voice number.
Can I use my Google Voice number outside the United
States?
Unfortunately, not. According to Google, international numbers are not allowed due to
restrictions put in place by governments worldwide.
Do I need to switch from my current provider if I want to
start using Google Voice?
Not necessarily. Many providers offer discounts for switching. Also, if you have an unlimited plan
with your current carrier, you may qualify for additional free minutes once you sign up for Google
Voice.
When do I use It?
You can easily update your contact information whenever you\’d like. All you\’ll need is the web
browser on your computer or laptop and your current login credentials for your Gmail account.
